How the calculator works
- What is my rasi?
- Your rasi is the zodiac sign the Moon occupied at the moment you were born, measured in the sidereal zodiac used in Vedic astrology. Rasi palan forecasts are read from your rasi.
- Why do you need my birthplace?
- To find the time zone and any daylight saving in force on your birth date, which converts your birth time to universal time, and to calculate your lagna (ascendant), which depends on where you were on Earth.
- What if I don’t know my birth time?
- We calculate for 12:00 noon. The Moon spends about two and a quarter days in each sign, so your rasi is usually clear. If the Moon changed sign on your birth date, we show both possibilities and the time it changed.
- How is it calculated?
- With the Swiss Ephemeris and the Lahiri ayanamsa, the standard used by the Indian government’s calendar and by most Vedic astrologers. It is exactly the method behind our forecasts, so your chart and your rasi palan always agree.
