Guru Peyarchi is the moment Jupiter, Guru, the great benefic of Vedic astrology, moves from one sign to the next. Because Jupiter takes about twelve years to travel round the zodiac, each move sets the tone for roughly a year: where Jupiter stands from your Moon sign shows where growth, support and good counsel come most easily, and where life asks for more patience.

On 31 October 2026 Jupiter leaves Kadagam (Cancer), where it is exalted, and enters Simmam (Leo), the sign of the Sun. This first visit is short. Jupiter turns retrograde on 13 December 2026 and slips back into Kadagam on 25 January 2027, then turns direct on 13 April and re-enters Simmam on 26 June 2027. It stays there until 26 November 2027, when it moves on into Kanni (Virgo).

So think of the October move as a preview: you will feel the first hints of the new chapter over the winter, a pause and a review in the first half of 2027, and the full picture from late June 2027.

Jupiter's glance

From Simmam, Jupiter casts its full glance (Guru paarvai) on the 5th, 7th and 9th signs from itself: Dhanusu (Sagittarius), Kumbam (Aquarius) and Mesham (Aries). Traditionally, wherever Guru looks, it blesses, so these three rasis feel Jupiter's support even more clearly during the main stay from June 2027.

Jupiter enters Simmam (Leo) on Saturday 31 October 2026 at 12:02 IST (06:32 in the UK), by the Thirukanitha method with the Lahiri ayanamsa.
Why does Jupiter go back into Kadagam in 2027?

Which rasis benefit most from Guru Peyarchi 2026?

Does the date differ in Vakya and Thirukanitha panchangams?
It can. The Vakya panchangam uses traditional formulas, the Thirukanitha (drik) method uses calculated positions; their dates for a peyarchi often differ by days or weeks. Cosmic Kural uses the Thirukanitha method with the Lahiri ayanamsa.
What is a simple remedy for Guru Peyarchi?
On Thursdays (Viyazhakizhamai) light a ghee lamp and pray to Guru Bhagavan or Dakshinamurthy, offer yellow flowers or a little chana dal, and honour your teachers and elders. Many families also visit Alangudi, the Guru sthalam near Kumbakonam.

How the dates are calculated

Dates and times are calculated with the Swiss Ephemeris in the sidereal zodiac with the Lahiri ayanamsa, the Thirukanitha (drik) method used by most modern panchangams. Some temple calendars follow the older Vakya panchangam and may give a different date for Guru Peyarchi; both traditions describe the same move. Times are shown for India (IST) and the UK (local time).
